Congregation Kehilat Shalom in Kostelec nad Labem
Recent Bat Mitzvah Nadine Grayson and her mom Abby Grayson delve into the history of the Memorial Scrolls Trust (MST) Sefer Torah number 1268. This Torah was likely written sometime in the 1700s and is originally from Kostelec nad Labem in what is now Czechia. It is now on permanent loan to Congregation Kehilat Shalom in Belle Mead, New Jersey, US. Included in the presentation is an interview with Barbora Hanusová, a descendant of one of the families that surely used this Torah prior to the Holocaust. This history was presented during the Scroll Rededication event at Congregation Kehilat Shalom after all three of our Sifrei Torah were restored. The research was Nadine's Bat Mitzvah project and became Abby's passion project.
