Origin Towns

Our scrolls were collected and shipped from 118 towns in Bohemia and Moravia. Traditionally these were referred to as the provenance of the scrolls. In the 1850’s there had been over 550 communities, however due to Jews moving to larger cities or emigrating communities closed or merged.  By 1939 there were some 150 still active. There is no doubt that many of the scrolls attributed to a town had in fact come previously from other communities in the area.
